David Bowie, The Lost Sessions, Vol 1, 2020 on Parachute Recording Company

Another Parachute Recording Company release, which collects radio broadcasts subject to different copyrights in the EU.

In this case, that includes appearances Bowie made on:

    • Radio Caroline 1966
    • Top Gear, December 18th, 1967
    • DLT Show, October 20th, 1969
    • The Sunday Show, Feb 5th, 1970
    • Sounds of the Seventies, March 25th, 1970

As is not uncommon with bootlegs, some tracks are misidentified / mislabelled: C14 is not Janine but the 4:42 version of “The Width of a Circle,” and C15 is not “The Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud” by is actually “Janine.”

These same recordings appeared on an earlier CD bootleg titled The Lost Sessions (Rare Radio Recordings) on Leftfield Media, from whom the LP’s tracks are said be licensed.

I can’t bypass any Bowie bootlegs – audio quality here is mixed, so perhaps only for the truly devoted. My copy via Waterloo Records in Austin TX

  • More time to call your representatives

    (via ars technica)

    Good news:

Internet radio will remain safe and sound, at least through July of this year, on account of a new decision by the US Copyright Royalty Board.

This means more time to call your representative and urge them to back HR 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.

  • Save Internet Radio!

As you’ve likely seen reported, the Copyright Royalty Board decided to dramatically increase royalty rates for internet streaming, and changing the way that such royalties are calculated.

This will make it cost-prohibitive for many online steaming stations to continue.

    From SaveNetRadio.org:

The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on May 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters will go bankrupt and silent on this date. Internet radio needs your help! H.R. 2060, The Internet Radio Equality Act was introduced by Representatives Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Donald Manzullo (R-IL ) to save the Internet radio industry.

You can go here and input your zip code to locate your representative and ask them to support the act.

    Wait Wait
Another favorite podcast of mine is a show co-produced byChicago Public Radio and NPR called Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me.

Self-described as “the oddly informative news quiz,” the show takes a humorous spin on the week’s news, involving a panel of comedic talent (regulars include Roy Blount, Jr, Paula Poundstone, Charlie Pierce, PJ O’Rourke, Mo Rocca, Roxanne Roberts, Sue Ellicott, and Adam Felber), call-in celebrity guests, and call-in listeners, going through a series of news-related quiz segments, including things like:
