  • 24 hour Clover HFI Central Square

I’ve been a fan of Clover for some time, and used to regularly visit first the food truck in Kendall Square, then the foodtruck in Dewey Square and the restaurant in Kendall. Now they’ve opened a 24 hr location in Central Square, where Hifi Pizza used to be: Clover HFI Here’s a video from 10…

  • English Beat at Riverfest

This weekend was Riverfest in Newburyport and the headliner was The English Beat! It’s a beautiful setting for a concert – they went on at dusk and played while the sun set on the Merrimack behind them, in the waterfront park. Solid set, closing with a strong Ranking Full Stop -> Mirror in the Bathroom.

  • Vegan Food Truck Festival, Kendall Square 9-12-15

Of course this happens the weekend I’m out of town. Food Truck Festivals of America Vegan Food Truck Festival. From their site: Attention all Vegans: we have just the festival for you: our Vegan Food Truck Festival! We have trucks coming far and wide (New York to Maine!) just to be a part of this…

  • Pizzeria Ludica

While in Vancouver BC recently for a conference I got to jonesing for good vegan pizza. Not the “hold the cheese” super plain variety you get at the average pizzeria who doesn’t know what they are doing, but a truly well made pizza with Daiya or the like. Luckily, I found Pizzeria Ludica. As the…

  • Vegan à Genève

I was in Geneva recently on business, and was happy to find Qibi, whose menu has a number of vegan options all clearly marked. I haven’t always found Geneva the most vegan-friendly so it was great to find another option. They also had a great little patio for outside seating, at the “rive gauche” location,…

  • Millenium Reopens in Oakland

I’m exited to report that the notice of Millenium’s closing earlier this year turns out to have been, as Mark Twain might say, greatly exaggerated. Millenium has now re-opened, at a location in Rockridge, North Oakland. Can’t wait to visit next time I’m in the bay area.

  • Contrast Podcast – New York

Another excellent episode of Contrast Podcast, on the theme of New York City. My favorites were the Cat Power (New York) and Dylan (Talkin’ New York). What I should have submitted: Fear – New York’s Alright (If you Like Saxaphones) R.E.M.’s version of First We Take Manhattan

  • Contrast Podcast Returns

Very happy to see the return at long last of the Contrast Podcast: The Contrast Podcast is awake and has shaved, showered and shaken off it’s sleepiness with a strong shot of something seriously caffeinated. Let your ears celebrate the start of a whole new era of contrastitude! Almost happy enough to not point out…

  • Mellow Mushroom

(via Mercy for Animals) When traveling and looking for healthy tasty vegan food, I often look for pizza joints with vegan options. One of the best – often in places where otherwise I’m not having great luck with vegan options – is the Mellow Mushroom chain. I’ve had great vegan eats in Atlanta, Louisville Kentucky,…

  • Love Love Love Love Love

(via Stereogum) New track from the Violent Femmes’ upcoming Happy New Year EP, due out on Record Store Day (4/18).

  • Terri NYC

One of my favorite places to pick up vegan takeout in New York City is Terri. They’ve had a location for some time on 23rd street near 6th avenue (60 West 23rd Street, New York NY) and now they have on in the Financial District (100 Maiden Lane, New York NY). The storefront on 23rd…

  • Laura Marling – Strange

(via Stereogum) Stereogum shared this video (which they found via DIY) of Marling doing another new tune from her upcoming album Short Movie. Other tunes previously previewed (also discovered via Stereogum): and

  • FourFiveSeconds

(via everywhere) Rihanna, Kanye West, and Sir Paul McCartney – first single from Rihannah’s new album. What is Sir Paul doing here? As Cuepoint’s DJ Louie XIV put it, it looks like: Paul McCartney, the founder of modern music as we know it, is now thrilled just to be the guitar player in Rihanna’s band.

  • Saved By the bell hooks

(via BoingBoing) Saved by the bell hooks is a brilliant tumblr combining the bell hooks and Saved by the Bell.

  • Vegan Phoenix

A couple of weeks back I was in Phoenix (well, Tempe really) for Pressnomics. Thought I’d share a few vegan spots in the area worth checking out. Green New American Vegetarian Green (@greendamon) has two locations – one in Tempe (2240 N. Scottsdale Rd #8, Tempe, AZ 85281) and one in Phoenix (2022 N 7th…
