Van Ronk was a key figure in the Greenwich Village folk scene of the 60s, sometimes called the Mayor of MacDougal Street. He’s the most visible model for Llewyn Davis in the Coen Brothers film.
This was his third studio album and first for Prestige, and was engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. Per the liner notes by J. R. Goddard:
“With this Prestige record, 26 year old Dave Van Ronk establishes himself without qualification as one of the best folk-blues singers in America today”

My copy is the 180g Vinyl Me, Please reissue from 2023, which reproduces the Prestige Folklore labels from the 1963 reissue instead of the original orange Prestige International labels.
