All the songs on this LP were co-written with service members and spouses – and a portion of the proceeds go to SongwritingWith:Soldiers.
Bullet Holes in the Sky sticks with me the most – cowritten with Jamie Trent:
It’s the 11th of November down in Nashville Tennessee
Free breakfast at the Waffle House if I show ‘em my I.D
A parade up on the riverfront, I hear the trumpets play
Hands on hearts, the color guard kicks it off Veterans Day
They thank me for my service and wave those little flags
They genuflect on Sundays and I know they’d send us back
But I believe in God and country and in angels up on high
And in heaven shining down on us through bullet holes in the sky
But all of these are strong songs, and Gauthier credits her co-writers and shared credit with them when the album was nominated for a Grammy.
I got this copy direct from Gauthier when she performed at Fruitlands earlier this year and got it signed – wanted to hang out and talk with her longer but there was a line.
