I didn’t realize until many years later this was a compilation album – basically [Greatest Hits] So Far because I was coming to their music so many years later.
Wikipedia tells me (and i believe them) that the 11 tracks here represent 50% of what the band had put out at that point, as studio output. Doing a compilation album when you’ve only released two LPs (Deja Vu and self-titled) and some singles is pretty impressive – and it’s gone 6x platinum so not a bad idea. (The b-side to the Ohio single, Find the Cost of Freedom, is one of my favorites).
Although there’s overlap with many other albums I have, I still hear this sequencing when I hear some of the songs. Album cover illustration by Joni Mitchell.
