No, that’s not the same Sugar Hill that put out Rapper’s Delight – it’s a folk/bluegrass label out of North Carolina, later merged in Concord and now Rounder.
Although Stuart’s recorded output starts in the 80s, he spent years touring with Lester Flatt and in Johnny Cash’s road band. This was his second album, the first being 1978’s With a Little Help From My Friends on Ridge Runner. The LP includes “Hey Porter” from Cash’s set, “Down the Road” from Flatt and Scruggs, and “Get In Line Brother” from Lester Flatt, as well as three originals by Stuart, a couple traditionals, and songs by Bob Nolan, Alton Delmore, and Bill Monroe.
My copy is the VMP Country reissue from February 2023 on “light blue galaxy” vinyl, with listening notes booklet by Natalie Weiner. Lacquers cut by Ryan Smith at Sterling, pressed at GZ Media.
