LaMontagne’s debut major label album, put out in 2004 on RCA, and then on vinyl in 2008 on RCA & Legacy. (I guess they waited to see how popular it was before committing to a vinyl release – very 2004). Recorded and mixed at Sunset Recorders in Hollywood long before LaMontagne set up The Big Room, his home studio (paid for by this record?). Produced, recorded, and mixed by Ethan Johns (son of Glyn Johns).
I still remember first hearing “Trouble” when it came out and just being spellbound by his voice. (“Well I’ve been saved / saved by a woman”). The “Jolene” here is not a cover of the Dolly Parton tune but an original, with Sara Watkins on fiddle. She also joins on Hannah.
My copy—via private sale—is a 2008 reissue with lacquer cut at Sterling pressed at United.
