KCRW VR App
The fine folks at KCRW have introduced a VR app, which you can use with viewers like Cardboard and your Android or iOS phone, to view performances from the KCRW studios. Lots of wonderful performances come through KCRW studios, so I’m really happy to see this. Not sure if I’m yet brave enough to travel…

Gropius House
(Photo from Historic New England) Last week we toured the Gropius House in Lincoln, MA – where Walter Gropius, his wife Ise, and daughter Ati lived from 1938 until Ise’s death in 1983. It’s not your typical Historic New England (formerly Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities) type house-museum, as most of their…

Zhu Vegan Cuisine in Arlington
Just 9-10 blocks from the Cambridge-Arlington line on Mass Ave, Zhu Vegan Cuisine recently opened in Arlington, and we got a chance to stop in for lunch a few weekends ago. You can check out the menu on their site though it leaves out the cocktails, beer and wine. I found the King Oyster mushroom…

24 hour Clover HFI Central Square
I’ve been a fan of Clover for some time, and used to regularly visit first the food truck in Kendall Square, then the foodtruck in Dewey Square and the restaurant in Kendall. Now they’ve opened a 24 hr location in Central Square, where Hifi Pizza used to be: Clover HFI Here’s a video from 10…

English Beat at Riverfest
This weekend was Riverfest in Newburyport and the headliner was The English Beat! It’s a beautiful setting for a concert – they went on at dusk and played while the sun set on the Merrimack behind them, in the waterfront park. Solid set, closing with a strong Ranking Full Stop -> Mirror in the Bathroom.

Pizzeria Ludica
While in Vancouver BC recently for a conference I got to jonesing for good vegan pizza. Not the “hold the cheese” super plain variety you get at the average pizzeria who doesn’t know what they are doing, but a truly well made pizza with Daiya or the like. Luckily, I found Pizzeria Ludica. As the…

Vegan à Genève
I was in Geneva recently on business, and was happy to find Qibi, whose menu has a number of vegan options all clearly marked. I haven’t always found Geneva the most vegan-friendly so it was great to find another option. They also had a great little patio for outside seating, at the “rive gauche” location,…

Millenium Reopens in Oakland
I’m exited to report that the notice of Millenium’s closing earlier this year turns out to have been, as Mark Twain might say, greatly exaggerated. Millenium has now re-opened, at a location in Rockridge, North Oakland. Can’t wait to visit next time I’m in the bay area.

Contrast Podcast – New York
Another excellent episode of Contrast Podcast, on the theme of New York City. My favorites were the Cat Power (New York) and Dylan (Talkin’ New York). What I should have submitted: Fear – New York’s Alright (If you Like Saxaphones) R.E.M.’s version of First We Take Manhattan

Contrast Podcast Returns
Very happy to see the return at long last of the Contrast Podcast: The Contrast Podcast is awake and has shaved, showered and shaken off it’s sleepiness with a strong shot of something seriously caffeinated. Let your ears celebrate the start of a whole new era of contrastitude! Almost happy enough to not point out…
