Introducing the Hardline According To Terrence Trent D’Arby was one of my favorite albums of the late 80. Sananda Francesco Maitreya, as he came to call himself, was such a fascinating and compelling performer and writer.

Having served in the US Army, D’Arby was stationed in West Germany. When he left the army in 1983 he found The Touch and german producer Frank Farian (later known for working with Milli Vanilli). The Touch’s EP Love On Time was recorded in Farian’s studio (Far Studios) and released in 1984 on Rigo Records, with “T. Darby” credited for songwriting. All the songs on that EP are also represented here.

This album was released in 1989 following his solo success and incorporates other recordings from that same era, now credited to “The Touch With Terrence Trent D’Arby.” IMP is Frank Farian’s label which shut down in 1990.
