David Porter is maybe best well-known as a songwriter and producer – the staff writer at Stax records who penned “Hold On, I’m Coming” and “Soul Man” among so many others, and who worked extensively with Isaac Hayes in the late sixties and early seventies. He’s also the found of The Consortium MMT in Memphis, a non-profit that supports and mentors musicians.
This album via MIME Records (Made in Memphis Entertainment) was his first release under his own name in 50 years and came to me via Vinyl Me Please as a “vinyl exclusive” album. It’s some of the newer performers out of Memphis along with some of the Stax-era legends doing songs out of David Porter’s vault of demos and unissued recordings.
Singers include Brandon Wattz, Candise Marshall, and Marcus Scott, with Lester Snell and Willie Hall of The Isaac Hayes Movement and other Memphis are musicians.
