I’ve not shared many Depeche Mode records here, mostly because I’m sharing new additions to my collection and I don’t find many DM records I don’t already have, but also because my collection is very 80s heavy, and I’m trying to rotate through decades.

That said, I have been a massive Depeche Mode fan from the minute I first heard “People are People” and then went back to the back catalog including the early stuff with Vince Clarke. They are without a doubt one of my top ten bands both live in concert and on record.

This was their fourth full length album on Mute records in the UK and Sire in the US. The breakthrough hit obviously was “People Are People” but this album also had “Master and Servant,” “Something to Do,” “Blasphemous Rumouts,” and “Somebody.” That last one came on Sirius XM’s First Wave the other day while we were driving somewhere and I still knew every single line by heart:

I want somebody to share, share the rest of my life
Share my innermost thoughts, know my intimate details
Someone who’ll stand by my side and give me support
And in return, she’ll get my support
She will listen to me when I want to speak
About the world we live in and life in general
Though my views may be wrong, they may even be perverted
She’ll hear me out and won’t easily be converted
To my way of thinking, in fact, she’ll often disagree
But at the end of it all, she will understand me

Somewhere along the way I lost my original copy of Some Great Reward on vinyl so was super happy to find this one, at Bull Moose Records in Portsmouth NH.
