This was the last album for Young & Crazy Horse on Reprise before the five album run on Geffin. Some would consider this a kind of punk or even post-punk (is 1981 too early for post-punk?) version of Neil Young & Crazy Horse. It sometimes gets listed as one of their least successful records—the lyrics to T-Bone, for example—but I think it’s got a certain rough charm.

“Surfer Joe and Moe the Sleaze” is widely reputed to be about the Reprise records team, specifically Mo Ostin and Joe Smith. Does that make Neil the big one of “he caught the big one and he let it go”?

My copy—via Residency Records in Salem MA—is a Winchester pressing with the original inner sleeves with cutouts for the labels.
