This was Prine’s 17th studio album and one of my favorites from his late career: a series of duets with great female singers, including Iris DeMent, Alison Krauss, Amanda Shires, Morgane Stapleton, Lee Ann Womack, Susan Tedeschi, Holly Williams, Kathy Mattea, Miranda Lambert, and Kacey Musgraves – plus Fiona Prine!
It’s basically a follow up to 1999’s In Spite of Ourselves which was also a set of duets with famous female singers.
Prine is such a gifted writer, and though none of these songs are his compositions he manages to inhabit them in his unique style anyway.
My version—direct from Oh Boy’s online store—is a United Record Pressing issue on black vinyl with a gatefold sleeve.
