Old & In The Way were a bluegrass band that included Jerry Garcia and David Grisman along with Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements, and John Kahn. This was their debut album, put out in 1975 – which would become one of the best selling bluegrass albums of all time. (The soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou? eventually displaced it).

It was recorded live at The Boarding House in San Francisco October 8, 1873. This is not just for Garcia fans but really shows his depth and breadth, working with strong musicians in any genre. Garcia & Grisman would record many albums together, and Kahn was on the Live at Keystone album with Garcia and Merl Saunders.
