This is actually a reissue of two earlier LPs: Jazz Goes To College (1954) and Jazz Goes To Junior College (1957). The former featured Bob Bates (bass), Joe Dodge (drums), Paul Desmond (sax), and Brubeck (piano); the latter Joe Morello on drums and Norman Bates on bass (Norman and Bob were brothers).
Jazz Goes To College was recorded at University of Cincinnati, Oberlin, and the University of Michigan. Jazz Goes to Junior College was recorded at Fullerton and Long Beach in California (referred to as junior colleges, though I assume that’s what is now Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Long Beach).
The double LP set was issued with a gatefold sleeve by Columbia in 1972. While the original LPs were mono, the reissue was “electronically rerecorded to simulate stereo” as was popular in the 70s.
My copy, via Bull Moose records in Portsmouth NH, has the promotional sticker from Columbia Records Radio Station Service on the cover, but the labels are regular issue (not promotional).
